Networking v Referral Marketing

How much time do you have?

Time is our biggest asset, we need to use it wisely and to do that understanding the difference between Networking and Referral Marketing is a time saver for people in business.

Years ago, I would go to two or three networking events a week in the belief that someone would want what I had to sell, nobody wanted it. I kept going to these meetings so not to mis out if somebody had a need. So, I was going to sell and few were attending to buy, in fact I saw most of the same people at each event.

Then I crossed paths with Referral Marketing, understanding the need to build deeper relationships with people who liked me, knew what I did and could easily share that knowledge with people they knew. It was not about collecting a thousand business cards, it was about accepting a few and deepening my relationship with those people over time.

The outcome, since 2016 I only onboard new clients who are referred to me by my trusted community. These people know and understand me, what I do and how to refer me.
